Penrith RSL Club has certainly had some changes this year with a number of renovations being completed. The Atrium, Café 53, the Waves lounge area, the ground floor TAB relocation and open air terrace have all provided new improvements to our club and it’s wonderful to see our members enjoying these upgraded facilities. On Friday 11th December we were honoured to have the Mayor of the City of Penrith, Councillor Kevin Crameri, officially open the new facilities.
Some changes occurred with the management structure of the Club during the year. Long serving board member and Chairman for 7 years, Clive Connor stepped down from the Board at the AGM in March. RSL member Bob Allen was appointed to the Board to fill the vacancy. Bob who works full time as the General Manager of the Sydney Harbour Tunnel brings much needed corporate experience to the Board and Club. More recently, Deputy Chairman Jeff Townsend resigned as a director.
Operational management of the Club also changed this month when CEO Dominic Connaughton resigned to pursue other interests. The Board has moved quickly to fill this gap and has appointed Ron Aurelius to commence as the CEO on January 4, 2010. Ron is originally from Newcastle, but has lived and worked in Penrith for twenty years. Ron has established himself as a solicitor for Bell Lawyers for many years here in Penrith, and has also served on our Board for the past two years. Ron is well acquainted with our Club and is passionate about good customer service and should bring some fresh ideas to the business.
The Board and Management are currently working on a new Strategic Plan for the Club to develop the business into the future. This will include a Master Plan being developed for the club site allowing us to plan for the future development of our unique location – in the heart of the City.
