The President and Treasurer positions remain the same, but Kenvyn
Davies has taken over the role of Hon Secretary from January 2008.
Ken is a relatively new member of the Club, having immigrated from the
UK in 2004, joining the Club in 2006.
The first of the season’s knockout tournaments has been completed
and it gives me great pleasure to advise that the winner of the “C”
grade Snooker Singles Final was none other than Danya Thompson,
who is the only regular female player, beating our President Rod
Parsons 2 – 0 in a keenly fought game. This means that following
Danya’s win in the “C” grade doubles last year with hubby Malcolm,
it means that Rod now also has to live with being “beaten by a girl!!”
Any other ladies in the Club who are thinking “I can’t do that”, well
think again, maybe you should come and try your luck on a Tuesday
evening and put the boys to the test.
Similarly, the Over 55’s who play on a Wednesday morning are always
happy to welcome new members, where players of different
capabilities can join in the Handicap Knockout Tournament, have
some fun, and maybe establish new friendships. The same applies to
the Tuesday Competition, where new male players are more than
welcome to join in.
The Mick Soper Handicap Snooker Tournament has also finished with
Alan “Darcy” Duggan beating Graham Clark in the final. The Snooker
Club Committee and members would very much like to thank Mick
Soper for his ongoing sponsorship, with the hope that this can
continue for some time to come, as this support does help to
stimulate interest in the game amongst both existing and potential
new members.
I am also pleased to report that following a submission to the Parent
Club, the Snooker tables are in the process of being refurbished with
two having been completed, with the remaining four tables due to be
done in the next month or so. This will also help to generate interest
in the game, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the
Parent Club and the Board for their prompt action in this matter.
